Unsa man naa anang USB ba oist. It's one of the freedom that should be given sa mga users. If ever ang USB has porn vids then grabeh na ba jud diay ka BAGA ug LIPS ang mga students sa CICCT nga mag watch jud porn knowing everyone can view their monitor? Glass baya ang library so everyone can view what they are doing.

CHUUVVAAANNEESSSS!!! nindot lagi ni nga thread... first of all i would like to thank ballad for the thread... then to choki for his posts... mo comment lang ko una sa kang choki nga post: Addendum:
Hopefully that internet access would allow open browsing. It should allow users to do anything they want. Like the ff:
1. download 2. installing of softwares 3. viewing of videos 4. etc. etc.
Well there are constraints for this but the school should put weight on RESEARCH rather than their own good. Below are explanations above and proposed solution for this constraints.
1. It's the responsibility of the school to install tough virus scanner to each pc so that if ever the user happens to download a program w/ virus. I think no user would intend to download a virus right? The school should consider that the user knows nothing and therefore, they should do something about it (like installing updated virus scanners) instead of depriving the user their freedom. This is a democratic country after all.
2. Sometimes users need to install a software for them to view the content of what they've searched. E.g. pdf reader, universal player like vlc or media player classic, powerpoint, flash player and other softwares that would satisfy the purpose of research. Sometimes some articles comes in video, ppt, flv, pdf format.
3. Some articles come in videos and base on my experience, I learn fast when I watch video tutorials rather than reading and reading and reading. That's why viewing of videos should be allowed.
4. A good and responsible student assistant should be installed for that internet access room so that it would keep track on all the activities of the users. The library in basak is already in glass therefore others could view what they are doing and i think it would prevent students to watch porn videos since everyone can view the monitor.
TIGHT SECURITY is NOT an OPTION!!!
i really appreciated you for opening this concern... ang ilaha lang gyud ani kay risk prevention procedure raman gud... dili man gani ta makaingon nga tight na ang ilang security... pwede pa man ni ma breech kung naa la'y mangahas... pangagpas ra man pud ni sa it admin nga dapat wala'y usb, dapat less ra ang page weight nga ma access, etc... but you know, the admin is doing some innovations man para mas masayon ug mas mapadali ang service nga ihatag sa clients sa school...

Regarding this matter, somehow it is very useful. Anyhow it is still very dangerous, why? Because, as the administrator lets the pass to every website to be opened, there will be no more limitations to the surfer to browse anything they want.. This is a big concern to us, since internet is already named as the most entertaining thing in the world, This enclosed to pornography and other matters which our University is stricly been restricting of. I even saw a student during an access time last year, browsing pornographic videos, when in fact the school administration has already blocked this kind of site. There is still a single hole that would allow a student to do such matter, how much more if the administrator would allow any kind of activities in the internet. This may lead the administration to serious problem though. So I guess these Plead is still impossible for now Choki.

USB's -> dako kaau na nga issue nga dapat mabantayan! it's not only for watching stuffs like what you've mention, but ila man gud gamiton ang USB bisag asa! then, ofCourse, naa pud kaha na viruses! anyway, i just make USB's as an example that students DO sometimes VIOLATE rules! mao nga mayra pud, daghan og limitations nga giset ang admin para maminimize ang mga problems like viruses!

well daghan pay butang nga dapat i consider if ila i no limit ang pag gamit sa internet like open web. kay if open tanan websites like youtube or any websites that needs buffing mo hinay man ang net sa skol and come to think dili ra ang mga taw sa library nag gamit sa net... ang mga offices pud ug mga subjects nga gipa on ang internet...
since ang ila purpose sa library is to really research. i think ok ra if limited ang webpages nga ma open. like mga references websites lng... kay if more than research nah... den their are internet cafes outside the campus which is cheaper... naa man gani 10 per hour... ^___^

So what's the point of this thread then? By the way, you guys kept on telling me that internet access in school should be used for researching or study purpose. But there are codes that needs to be downloaded so that you can use it. An example is www.codeproject.com or codeguru. They have bunch of example codes that are ready to be executed. Ebooks are more comprehensive compared to articles or tutorials on the net. I really wanted to download those stuffs so that I can read it. But then it's not possible. You know what, I have friends there who are lab assistants and wanted to acquire those ebooks. What they did is just ping me here and let me download the ebooks so that I could send it to them. Hopefully the school would give weight to students who are willing to learn and explore knowledge more and not to those students who are ...........

LOLX ^___^ butangan jud ug limitation oi... pila kaha ka offices nag gamit sa net sah? kng magpatuyang pud ang pag open sa net like buffering sites eg. YouTube or Imeem...and like there are 6+ man guro sa library nga pc. so if naay 3 pc mo buff ug 5mins nga song dayon gi share pana... wew unsa kaha ang ma hitabo sa bandwith sah? mao bitaw gi block sa data center kay mag lisod daw sila ug trace ngano hinay ang net. its about being considerate pud... di naman jud ingon nga naa kay i DL from the sites. its better if ang skol na ang mo provide sa mga needed softwares... and besides if di mo work ang site. i think the net is very wide for us to search another site. although naay uban nga ala jud sa net ang exact information nga ato gi nid. ^___^ di baya jud na malikayan. nga while searching mo visit sila ug mga buffering sites para maminaw ug music while searching. mao nga nid jud i limit ang access sa internet... mao ra na ako pasabot.

Yah you're absolutely right that the school should provide the needed softwares. But what about ebooks or source codes that needs to be downloaded if ever you're reading a tutorial site. For example you're reading JNDI, you need to download those source codes for you to view it. Hinay jud diay kaayo ang net sa school? So better forget this thread if that's the case. When I was a student in SJ, I was so happy that access periods were given to students but it turned out that it's still useless. I can't download pdf or chm or presentation files. We have this subject called Software Engineering and we are using daw C++ using Visual C++ ide. You know what, you can't program if you just rely on books. You also need to look at others work for you to learn techniques and other programming styles. Besides books won't feed you all you need. You also need experiences of others that's why looking at others codes are normal when you want to learn programming. And also almost everything is on the web. All you have to do is to search for it if you want to use it. Sometimes you need to download it. codeproject.com provides a lot of ready made classes for you to use and integrate it in your project. I downloaded a lot of codes there and integrated it on my project in SE. Well anyway, if hinay jud ang net sa school so better drop this thread.

We are paying 200 in our internet access but I found it useless cause we can't maximize the so called intention of the school which is for RESEARCH and STUDY.
If the net is so slow, the school should resort to other solution like increase the bandwidth and not sacrifice the essence of RESEARCH and STUDY.
I understand that faculties, staffs, admins are also using the bandwidth but we are also paying extra 200 for this internet access and it's not fair to deprive what we want because of them.
Well anyway, I know my errs here aren't possible because I think SJ is not yet prepared in terms of IT security and services.

ROFL! i think the thread means rooms for improvement. that means we can only suggest. besides the access period isnt really useless ka daghan uroy ug naka gamit sa net para sa ilang mga research. well kng ato lng huna2on di ra baya ang internet ilang gi focus. ila pud baya gi budget ang ila attention sa uban pang matter... and about the increase of bandthwith sa net well ok man pud na pero mo increase jud ang fee para sa internet. mayta tanan taw kay dato nga maka cope up if ever dako ug i increase. for me kng sa research2 lng jud sakto2 raman ang speed and about sa mga i DL nga softwares nga imo gi mean i think u just have to go to the one assigned dayon ask ka ug permission... kay if maau na imong gi DL or clean sa viruses den why man pud ila balibaran. its just controlling people from downloading stuff nga di jud nided... if nided jud nah then go and ask permission... syaro lisod japon na buhaton... mao nga ayaw i put down kini nga thread kay nangita ra ni ug mga opinions/suggestions... opinions/suggestions not just from you but from others pud... so be considerate about the thread. ur trying to show nga kana jud imoha suggestion ang dapat nilang tumanon... there is a proccess to be done in order nga ma implement ni...
